Artist Brendan O’Connor has a dream: No one should ever go without a place to sit. Or, perhaps, lie down and take a nap. Building on the success of his SIT project (thesitproject.com), which installed decorated chairs at local LYNX bus stops that lack seating, O’Connor founded the Banana Hammock Republic, a small business selling “tactical hammocks” that can be strung up anywhere – the straps have enough flex and grippiness that the hammock can be tied up with a simple bow knot. Response has exceeded O’Connor’s expectations; the website is full of customers’ hammock-rocking selfies. We love an artist with a strong business sense.
