Prince Paul has brought unique beats to the table in the past through his production work with De La Soul, Stetsasonic and Wu-Tang spin-off group The Gravediggaz. "Psychoanalysis" is no different, except that this project is all his.

The styles range from deranged stalker-movie-sounding theme music to classic-sounding hip-hop. Most of the album consists of skit-like tracks with titles like "Open Your Mouth," "To Get a Gun" and "Booty Clap," making this release sound like a compilation with no real direction -- not necessarily a bad thing due to the variety in sounds and styles.

The packaging and layout live up to the title and are somewhat reminiscent of the Dr. Octagon album "Dr. Octegonecologyst." If you think you'll dig porno excerpts, psychobabble and hip-hop, then this album is for you.
