Bluegrass is played faster and with more attention to a song's melodic theme than any other music on the face of the planet. Toss in gorgeous vocal harmonies and high-lonesome lead singers and you'll get an art form worthy of fanaticism.
The New Coon Creek Girls are a superb ensemble -- rightfully one of the top draws of the bluegrass idiom. Their latest album blends all of their performing virtues for 12 wonderful covers and originals. Dale Ann Bradley handles the majority of the lead vocals and is worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as better known bluegrass artists such as Alison Krauss, Claire Lynch and Lynn Morris. In Bradley, the world of bluegrass can add a new member to its list of the very finest female vocalists.
