Pimp Daddy Nash's debut CD would make a great score for a futuristic film noir, with the Pimp himself dimming the lights and manning the projector. "Private Leftfield Downtempo Fuzz" contains musical and compositional skills that rise above the usual sample-and-loop fodder. The tracks seem to segue naturally into each other as Pimp Daddy blends a junkyard full of hip-hop inspired beats, vintage jazz samples and analog-synth blurbs to color his sophisticated melodies.

The recording takes off with "Jump, Jive and Wail" before coming in for a landing with the deep-bass throb of "Balloon to the Moon." The sitar-like organ tones of "The Sixty-Nine Affair" mesh nicely with its explosive drum & bass rhythms to create the album's standout track. One minor quibble: Some songs seem to linger several minutes longer than necessary, a characteristic unfortunately inherent to the downtempo regions that Pimp Daddy's music inhabits. But when the dreamy, head-nodding title track cues up those excesses are easily forgotten.
