Local band Zoom!'s full-length debut is a flashy hybrid of New York/L.A. punk and new wave that swerves between moody dirges and slash-and-burn rave-ups. While many bands settle for a straight-ahead approach in the studio, Zoom! spices things up with detailed production and mixing.
The guitars and Tina Xoom's vocals jump right out of the speakers, embellished with doses of synths and samples. But don't let those refinements fool you. "Political Roast" charges at a furious tempo, while "Slippin' Thru" quickly sheds its introspective vocals for a surge into guitar overdrive.
Zoom! knows that good music paints a vivid mental picture, and combined with their visually stimulating stage show, this band should have no trouble sharing their vision with Orlando's music scene.
