On this, the third installment of Sasha and Digweed's "Northern Exposure" dance-music series, the perennial underground superhero DJs come even closer to infiltrating the psyche with their percolating precision. Unlike the separate Eastcoast and Westcoast portions of last year's installment, this double CD feels like the path of a night out, from trancey introductions ("Lost Without You") to euphoric drive ("Free") and back again ("Silence") -- a tribute to Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence").
As DJs Sasha and Digweed are more agents of this music than its creators. The argument that the art of club music lies in juxtaposition is not new, nor is it necessarily true -- there are a few genuine songs here. But who knows what they were originally meant to sound like?
Dreadfully hypnotic after 20 identical remixes, this, like most dance compilations, is at best a passive listen.
