Review - Innamorare: Summer Flamenco

Artist: Ottmar Liebert

New-age sensation Ottmar Liebert has recorded more than 10 albums in the last decade, combining his signature flamenco-guitar style with jazz, classical, Afrobeat, Cubano and polyrhythms from around the world. New release "Innamorare: Summer Flamenco" is a breezy affair in the same vein as Liebert's acclaimed debut "Nouveau Flamenco."

Tracks "Verano de Alegria" and "2 the Night" both feature agile acoustic runs and syncopated horn parts, while "Alameda" plays off a mellow mariachi sound. In fact, there's hardly a South American musical style here that isn't infused with Liebert's flamenco fingering -- even Santana's familiar Latin-rock aesthetic is explored on one track.

While not all the tunes convey the romance or danger Liebert at one time insisted flamenco music possessed, "Innamorare" proves he's not just borrowing various musical styles from around the world. Liebert is pushing them into a flamenco future where he reigns supreme.
