While much of the world focuses in on Serbia's ethnic cleansing, it misses out on some of the cultural elements under pressure. "Anthology of World Music: Albania" was recorded in November of 1993 as Bruno B. Reuer traveled about central and southern Albania. Reuer documented musical traditions that were handed down from generations -- but may not make it into the next century. No matter how skilled the musicians might be, the raw power of the music almost overwhelms technical considerations.
While this may not be a comfortable listen for those weaned on the various forms of pop radio -- the tracks have a definite Asia Minor tint to them -- Reuer has performed an important service, detailing a living entity prior to its potential extinction.
