Review - The Hindu Cowboys

Artist: The Hindu Cowboys

comment

In this era of Shania Twain pseudo-country crossovers, it is refreshing, almost daring, for a group to be plowing the C&W fields of yesteryear instead of hitching a ride to the navel-gazing pop charts. On their self-titled debut, Orlando-based throwbacks The Hindu Cowboys offer seven neo-nostalgic slabs of home-baked country goodness.

Behind able-bodied musicians Craig Roy (bass, accordion), George Dimitrov (electric guitar), Paul Crawford (pedal steel), Giti Khalsa (drums), Uncle Mike Sudul (drums) and Terri Binion (backing vocals), singer-songwriter Joseph Martens' moody tumbleweeds shine. "Love Shaped Hole" is a dark delight; "Better Than Me" is both sweet and twangy.
