Tampa-based underground producer DJ X (Xquisit Records) shines on his Phat Cat debut mix compilation, "Club 2000." The CD-only release is loaded with signature "funky breakz" anthems courtesy of Phat Cat artists KromOzone Project ("Stay In Love," "Take My Love" ) and Mix Factory ("Take Me Away" ), as well as club favorites. When DJ X locks down a groove, he keeps it there, giving each track the right amount of room to breathe.
Also an accomplished remixer, DJ X drops several worthy reworkings on "Club 2000," including the "DJ X Cold Chill'n Remix" of Superfly Jeff's "Get Serious" and the "Xquizit DJ X Remix" of Freekstyle's "Don't Stop the Rock 2000." X also throws down an original joint, "I Can't Stop This Flow." This is Phat Cat's first comp and, by my estimation, they've come up with a winner.
