Review - Time to Discover

Artist: Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise

comment

It's as unlikely as it seems: Four Detroit modern rockers of meticulous studio detail meet up with one blind Alabama blues singer and proceed to rediscover the timelessness of soul music. Believe it. Brothers Michael and Andrew Nehra, who produce and perform, fly heady into the spacious atmospherics of the classic Stax studio days, to lay down a generous canvas for Bradley's moving baritone.

On "Time to Discover," the band's second full-length CD, Bradley & Co. deliver the goods 11 times over -- through the brazen hip-hop inflection of "Higher" (featuring the unlikely Kid Rock), the more traditional Al Green-isms of "Baby" and even into the Stones-at-the-disco swank of "Tramp" -- to create what may be one of the most phenomenal American blues-rock records in years.
