To put it in a word, Death Cab for Cutie's "We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes" is wonderful. Frontman Benjamin Gibbard's mellow vocals shine against the myriad of instruments used on this album. In "Company Calls," the glockenspiel adds a whimsical touch to the chorus. Throughout, the presence of the piano -- or its throaty brother, the organ -- is ever-present.
And each song has its own personality. Just as "Title Track" is upbeat and cheery, "No Joy I n Mudville" is soft and musing. This record seems to have everything except for the token dance mix.
Death Cab has come up with a winner by blending the perfect amount of pensive rock with the right touch of musical overture and thoughtful lyrics. I have the facts and I'm voting "yes" for this lovely album.
