The members of formula-metal hazards Hoëck had to have grown up on a steady diet of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Decoys like the disembodied ranter in "Dark Town" and the Beach Boys spooforific "Little Yellow People Box" inspire an artistic conjuring of the guys doing The Time Warp in the garage while they record.
Unfortunately, Hoëck's endearing parodies fail to overshadow important elements. Song after song is saturated with dissonant, inert vocals that drag mournfully through some undefined inner torture.
The lyrics run from obscure to clichéd, and lack any clever or redeeming glimmers of imagination and landscape: "This is a fucked up night. My boyfriend hates my guitar. He's a drama king. He's my everything ... I think I'll go fuck my guitar."
For improved fire-and-brimstone production, Hoëck needs to add some dynamic instrumentation and leads, and a big shot of caffeine into the vocals.
