Just a year ago, it seemed that no CD could ever be as crass and dumb as Kid Rock's "Devil Without a Cause." Pimpadelic, the latest entry in the rap-and-roll contest, seems intent on challenging that notion.
At least the Kid has a sense of humor, hooks and a smidgen of charm. All Pimpadelic has is Southern rock that doesn't boogie, metal that wouldn't scare an 'N Sync fan, and witless, flowless rhyme schemes that make Bloodhound Gang sound like the Wu-Tang Clan.
Even more annoying, these ugly, charm-deprived guys spend the entire album making the specious claim that they're popular with the girls.
Typical lyric: "While we drop the shit now ladies/ drop your drawers tonight/ and if you don't want to show pussy/ tits'll be alright." Too bad they weren't around to play Woodstock.
Yes, "Southern Devils" redeems Kid Rock. Now how bad will the next manufactured rap-rock band have to be to redeem Pimpadelic?
