Review - We Are All Beautiful People

Artist: For Stars

Floating somewhere between Pink Floyd and The Flaming Lips, San Francisco's For Stars has been straddling self-flagellation and cinematic overstatement for three albums now. On "We Are All Beautiful People," their third, frontman Carlos Forster eschews the distant space-pop horizons of last year's "Windows for Stars" in favor of a more process-oriented decline. "I don't wanna be eternal, i don't wanna walk on wires/ i just wanna know when it's okay," he croons on optimistic opener "Wires." "People" shakes as it subdues, landing the band in a sort of Stones, whiskey-and-smoke reflection, long after hope walked out the door. "The memory that I have of my beautiful fucked up hour/ the strangest memories I have," he cascades on "Beautifully ... ," leaving beauty, well, For Stars.
