This Stephen King adaptation tumbles into the vast quality chasm between Carrie and Silver Bullet. Director Lawrence Kasdan and writer William Goldman struggle with a sprawling story that pits a five-man version of the Psychic Friends Network against an invading horde of otherworldly "shit weasels." Some of the concepts and production values have merit, but the film is long and disjointed, shirking the gradual descent into the supernatural that marks King's best work. And Morgan Freeman, who plays an obsessed alien hunter, gets to spout some of the lamest dialogue of his career.
