Review - The Secret Sun

Artist: Jesse Harris and The Ferdinandos

Norah Jones' songwriting partner (Omigod! Did you say Norah Jones?!) sings his own songs and, obviously, his music is cut from the same cloth as his work on the most pleasing dark-horse success of the last decade. Rich and melancholic, yet with a strong pop sensibility, the ineffable undercurrent of accessibility of Jones' "Don't Know Why" comes to the fore when Harris is responsible for the presentation of the songs. Constructed in a loose, acoustic form -- and occasionally decorated with some rockin' moments -- "The Secret Sun" fits neatly into the Ryan Adams/Pete Yorn mold of solid songwriters with weak voices. Unsurprisingly, Harris called in Jones to guest on "What Makes You," one of the album's strongest cuts.
