Review - Passages Through

Artist: Landing

comment

Between the moment when you first stretch out on a golden beach and the sting of that first mosquito sinking its fangs into your forearm, there's a fleeting interval of unadulterated bliss. If such times came packaged with soundtracks, seashore tanning fetishists would be overly acquainted with "Passages Through." Andrew and Adrienne Snow -- the married guitar/vocals/synth team at the heart of spacecore outfit Landing -- simulate sun-kissed, undulating waves by picking and poking at their gossamer strings until you're hopelessly adrift in their songs. This is the kind of record that doesn't need vocals (or drums, for that matter; it isn't until the third or fourth listen that Damon Gardner's stickwork even registers). The Snows are undoubtedly aware of this, but sing along anyway, their chantlike choruses peeking up from the glorious din every now and again. Listen: Adrienne's rightly awestruck and Andrew content, his wowed voice reminiscent of Flying Saucer Attack's Dave Pearce, whose recordings are in a very similar, floaty vein.
