Raunchy thud-punk, straight outta Amsterdam. Gimme a hell-yeah. Too often, the European music that washes up on our shores tends toward the intellectual and artistically extravagant. And that's just fine. But every now and then, it's nice to know that there are bands that don't give two shits about intellect or extravagance. And Oil is one of those bands. Nodding slightly to some Soulside bottom end and briefly acknowledging some stop-start debt to emo, the five tracks on "Electric Tongue" are really just a handful of balls-out rockers with no grandiose plans beyond kicking your ass. And they do that quite well, thank you. The title track displays the most angles, while the thrusting groove of "Monolith" is certainly the most well-titled.
