By injecting a swank undercurrent of lounge groove into these hoary holiday standards -- Charles Brown's "Merry Christmas Baby," Mel Tormé singing "The Christmas Song," Andy Williams' defining version of "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" -- the high-class remixers on this collection update the tunes without distracting from their fundamental essences. In other words, this isn't glitch reconstructionism or postmodern irony taking a swipe at the songs that define Christmas.
