There's a moment early on in "Bodysong" -- Radiohead multi-instrumentalist Jonny Greenwood's score to the identically titled U.K. film -- when the unwelcome arrival of Thom Yorke seems all but inevitable. That field of quavering strings, you're certain, will make way for Yorke's studied moan and ambiguously political prose. But though its song titles ("Milky Drops from Heaven," "Clockwork Tin Soldiers") could slip unnoticed onto the track list for Radiohead's eventual box set, Yorke never shows up, and "Bodysong," happily, doesn't become a sibling to "Hail to the Thief." Greenwood's sabbatical from avant-rock finds him painting from a broad stylistic palette: stirring up white-hot, bitchin' brews á la Miles Davis, retreading Rachel's with the Emperor Quartet, and, on "Convergence," piling one percussive element on top of another, on top of another, until it sounds as though a man covered in wind chimes and test tubes is tumbling down the world's longest staircase.
