Scott Kannberg doesn't want to be alone. After the disintegration of Pavement in 2000, Kannberg immediately formed a new project: Preston School of Industry. Solo work proved too lonely, so he enlisted the collaborative efforts of Scott McCaughey and Wilco on "Get Your Crayons Out." Unfortunately, Scotty is stuck in the past. While PSI's debut caused suspicion, Monsoon confirms that Kannberg is only capable of replicating his formula for jangling, forgettable alt-pop. The lyrics are only thoughtful in the way of coffeeshop banter, resulting in flawed and predictable indie rock with a built-in audience. Everyone else can just dust off their old Pavement CDs for the same effect.
