Review - Love Beach

It's tough to imagine a cross between Tom Waits and Frank Sinatra, but that's what Love Beach amounts to. Dubbed "metropolitan folk" by one astute critic, the moniker seems appropriate for the wail and warble about "trophy brides" and "sneakers hanging from a power line" over softly plucked banjos. "Viking Burial" offers a millennium-spanning, postmodern world where the "gods have to wait in traffic/ When the Internet was free." But that world is cursed on "Way It Was Before" when the "future had a name/ And it was on my credit card."
