Review - The Further Adventures of Lord Quas

Artist: Quasimoto

Madlib's alter ego, Quasimoto, is like that kid down the block who's too smart for his own good. Squeaking like a punk hyped up on helium, Quasimoto is obsessed with booze, booty and urban confusion, his rap constructions and cast of thousands creating utter hilarity and underground hijinx. Sampling everything from Elmer Fudd and Lord Buckley to a buzz-infatuated Neil Diamond, Further Adventures is a travelogue of sorts, with recurring themes flowing from Quas' lunatic cast like a Looney Tunes mash-up on parade. You could drop your ear anywhere in this 27-track collage and still not know which way is up. The tunes pass like a surreal drive-by of comic book characters, shady deals and '70s R&B loops with Quas' wacky, wordy commentary. "My flow is similar to Cool Whip Tabasco," he proclaims, his sweet 'n' sour blends the stuff that makes underground hip-hop great.
