Advance PR to the contrary, Pixar's "One Man Band" is not included in this touring showcase of 2006 Oscar nominees blame ongoing rights issues for the sore-thumb omission. In its place is Bill Plympton's uncharacteristically romantic fable "The Fan and the Flower," which won the Grand Jury Award for Best Animated Short at the just-wrapped Florida Film Festival. FFF faves "Badgered," "9" and "The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello" are in here, too, though the most affecting entry is the one that won the Oscar: "The Son and the Moon," filmmaker John Canemaker's sometimes-angry, sometimes-affectionate dialogue with his deceased dad. Voice work by John Turturro and Eli Wallach sparks a short that doesn't let character take a back seat to technical achievement.
