Bang Bang Rock & Roll (Banana/Fierce Panda/Downtown) Art Brut song titles are the U.K. rock equivalent of oh-so-obvious U.S. comedy flick names like Boat Trip or Beauty Shop ' you get the basic gist right upfront. 'Moving to L.A.? 'Fight!? 'Formed a Band? So far, so dull. Fortunately Art Brut have both the false-bottom naiveté and SpongeBob-level rock instincts to parlay what are basic male teen fantasies into hooligan pub chants. 'Emily Kane (about, well, you know) pilfers a stampeding, fist-pumping Andrew W.K. hook to help inflate its eternal-grade-school-crush conceit, singer Eddie Argos shouting, 'Other girls went and other girls came/I still remember Emily Kane, deep into the part of your brain reserved for composition-book doodling and recess-time wrasslin'. 'Moving to L.A. appropriates the Beach Boys' carefree delusions and breezy, palm-tree veneers, almost making the unlikely prospect of 'drinking Hennessy with Morrissey seem like an attractive proposition.
