As an actress, Melanie Griffith is very on and off, and that faux-Monroe voice of hers becomes less and less enchanting as the years roll on. So if you've found yourself wondering why anyone ever got excited about her in the first place, check out Body Double, the 1984 thriller now on DVD in a special edition. It takes more than an hour for the then-27-year-old Griffith to show up on screen, but when she does, she's topless and superhot as porn star Holly Body. Question answered. Craig Wasson stars as a B-movie actor who thinks he's witnessed a murder. Director Brian De Palma taps into themes from Hitchcock's Rear Window and Vertigo. While this isn't top-drawer De Palma (such as The Untouchables or Blow Out), it's significantly better than his recent dud, The Black Dahlia.
