From various production and band work to his association with electronic music innovators the Orb, Fehlmann's good name has made its way onto the sleeves of many memorable recordings. His work on Honigpumpe, though grim in spots, doesn't look to the narcoleptic moments of 2004's Lowflow, during which Fehlmann counted icy instrumental hip-hop among his minimally decorated efforts. In fact, Honigpumpe's shimmering 'With Oilâ? is notably warm; a web of sound washes fills the room, with chime loops and a tide of synths that are a far cry from the choppy dance beats and tambourines of 'Bienenkoenigin.â? Even when his productions trickle over with subtle house rhythms ('Schaum,â? 'Dusted With Powderâ?), they're busy with dim alleyway ambience and dub effects, guaranteeing another round of acclaim for this veteran experimentalist.
