Help keep God from killing again

Rational people, some ladies need your help.

This is a mite bit heavy for a Friday, I know, but there are a couple sisters in Iran who are about to get stoned to death this weekend for, well, who knows. They say adultery.

February 8, 2008â??
The Iranian judiciary has sentenced two sisters, Zohreh and Azar Kabiri to death by stoning. According to Iranian media reports, following allegations of adultery by Zohrehâ??s husband, the sisters were arrested in February 2007. In the first trial, which took place without defense counsel, the sisters were coerced to â??confessâ? to adultery during the course of interrogations by the judge. The General Court of Ferdis sentenced them to 99 lashes. After enduring the lashes the sisters were without explanation sent back to prison and later summoned for a new trial on charges of â??adulteryâ? in Tehranâ??s Criminal Court. On 5 August 2007, they were sentenced to death by stoning for adultery, a decision that was subsequently approved by the Supreme Court.

So let's review: they took their lashes, then the Supreme Court said "wait, we're not done with you." Huh?

Unfortunately, the U.S. government can't get involved for two reasons:
1) Bush himself is a bible literalist and both the Qur'an and the Judeo-Christian bible say the following:
If a man commits adultery with another man's wife, both the man and the woman must be put to death. (Leviticus 20:10 NLT)

2) Condoleeza Rice announced in April 2006 that the U.S. was opting out of the Human Rights Council (HRC) who would intervene in such matters. Without the most powerful nation as a member, there is limited resources elsewhere to interfere. Thanks, guys.

WE can do something, though. Both are futile, but worth a shot, if only so we can feel better about Zohreh and Azar not being with us after this weekend.

Contact Iranâ??s Head of Judiciary Ayatollah Shahroudi urging him to release Zohreh and Azar Kabiri immediately and unconditionally from prison. Also urge him to release Kobra Najjar and to commute all death sentences that have been passed and await execution.
