Friday, August 26 – Two-Piece Mini Fest
When done correctly, the two-piece band is one of the most exciting arrangements in rock music. The economy, the energy – it’s a thing of beauty. So when the Two-Piece Mini Fest debuted in January and featured area duos, it instantly became one of the best themes of all the recent mini fests to spring up. But now, as if to answer our not-exactly-silent prayer, it’s back and vying to become a serial event, this time hosted by comedian Clayton Anderson downtown at the Social. This showcase promises to deliver a head-spinning nine acts in the course of one night via two stages. Highlights to look for are the rough muscularity of Bob on Blonde and Yogurt Smoothness, the White Stripes strut of Melbourne’s Dull Blades and Cassandra Wilcox (ex-Wilbur) rhythmically accompanied by Mumpsy’s Jeff Ilgenfritz. When two’s company, it definitely deserves a crowd. – Bao Le-Huu (7:30 p.m. at the Social, 54 N. Orange Ave.; $5; 407-246-1419; thesocial.org)
