Sunday, September 4 – MEAC/SWAC Challenge
First: that name. This is the annual showdown between two historically black colleges, one from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and one from the Southwestern Athletic Conference – in this case, Prairie View A&M in Texas and Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, respectively – and the whole thing is broadcast by ESPN Plus. The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats had a great showing last year and have earned the right to get stomped by Miami this year, while the Prairie View A&M Panthers, um, have a new head coach. Also, both programs have amazing marching bands. All of which leads us to our main point: Football season is here again! – Justin Strout (Noon at the Florida Citrus Bowl, 1610 W. Church St.; $20-$30; 407-849-2020; meacswacchallenge.com)
