Friday, September 9 – Kevin Nealon
Nealon may be best known now for his dopey (ha) turn on Showtime’s Weeds as Nancy Botwin’s accountant-slash-backer-slash-best customer, but he created some of his most memorable characters in the coke-fueled era of Saturday Night Live, where he was a cast member from 1986 to 1995: Subliminal Man, Hans (to Dana Carvey’s Franz), even a turn in the “Weekend Update” anchor spot. Over the years, the sarcasm has mellowed out into a shaggy ex-jock affable-dad thing that suits him well in his film work (The Wedding Singer, Happy Gilmore, Just Go With It). This appearance is part of a short tour on which Nealon is working out material for his upcoming Showtime stand-up special, which he’s calling “Face and Crotch.” OK, so maybe he hasn’t completely mellowed out. – Jessica Bryce Young (various show times through Saturday, Sept. 10 at Improv Comedy Club & Dinner Theatre, 9101 International Drive, Suite 2310; $28; 407-480-5233; theimprovorlando.com)
