We’ll give credit where credit is due: Undoubtedly a tough feat, this annual outdoor art affair has held its widely regarded fine-art footing for the past 35 years. This year’s event poster, themed “Art Under the Stars,” highlights the paper-painting work of local creative Elizabeth St. Hilaire Nelson, and she’s just one of 150 featured artists competing for more than $20,000 worth of awards in the fest’s juried show. As the only evening fine-art show in the state (meaning it’ll be 80 degrees instead of the stifling mid-’90s afternoon temps), the three-day Maitland Rotary Art Festival canvases Lake Lily with a cluster of tented art displays. We’re talking fine crafts, drawings, mixed media works, photography, pottery, sculpture pieces and the like. Add in live orchestra and full band performances by Performing Arts of Maitland, and it looks like you’ve found a relaxing evening of lakeside strolling while, at the same time, supporting the arts. We suppose throwing tradition out the window doesn’t always work, after all. – Aimee Shea (6-10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday at Lake Lily Park, 641 S.
