Saturday, Nov. 12 – Sanford Brew-Ha-Ha
While some high-chinned wine connoisseurs scoff at the grass-roots approach of making beer in your garage, home brewing beer is serious business. Any home brewer could affirm the distinct variances of flavor, aroma and mouthfeel between, say, a pale ale and a stout. See for yourself, as dozens of professional Central Florida brewers converge in downtown Sanford’s cozy Magnolia Square for the Sanford Brew-Ha-Ha. They’ll present their best batches to be judged according to stiff standards set by the Beer Judge Certification Program, which promotes “beer literacy and the appreciation of real beer.” Your entrance ticket gets you unlimited samples of more than 60 craft beers, and live music, food vendors, art displays and a beer education booth pack the square. Just don’t commit beer-loving sacrilege and go adding one of those flavorings or salts to the beer, or even worse, ask for a Miller Light. – Aimee Vitek (4-9 p.m. at Magnolia Square Market, 117 Magnolia Ave., Sanford; $15-$25; 407-474-6034)
