Selection Reminder: D.L. Hughley at the 102 Jamz Comedy Jam 3!

Thursday, Nov. 17D.L. Hughley

Some still know this smart, irreverent comic from his late-’90s UPN sitcom, The Hughleys, but we’ll forever associate D.L. Hughley, happily, with Simon Styles, his character on the short-lived Aaron Sorkin series Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. As Simon, the classy, stabilizing leg of the Big Three trio at the center of the SNL-style show-within-the-show, Hughley was given free reign to display the quick wit, political savvy and cerebral comedy that has since become his offstage M.O. on CNN, Real Time with Bill Maher and on the radio. He’s primarily a stand-up comedian, though, and while his riffs on relationships and growing up black in America can be uproarious, we’re anxious to see if his last few years of punditry have sharpened his point of view. – Justin Strout (with Bruce Bruce, Gary Owen; 7:30 p.m. at Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, 401 W. Livingston St.; $45-$95; 407-246-4262;
