Wednesday, Dec. 21Orlando Magic vs. Miami Heat

You know, sometimes anticipation is a bitch. You sit and wait, anxiously imagining how perfect that particular moment will be when, most times, once it’s come and gone, it only feels like a let down. We certainly hope that’s not the case when the Orlando Magic play their first preseason home game tonight, what with all of the NBA negotiating fuss and all of the canceled games we’ve endured. It’s been a long time coming (for fans, months can seem like years), and we expect tonight’s duel against Southeast division rivals the Miami Heat to spread a bit of magic dust back onto Orlando’s fan base. And hey, if just for tonight, let’s look beyond the past months’ playing drought, set aside the Magic’s recent roster change-ups and ignore the rumors behind Dwight Howard’s departure. Tonight, let’s just bask in the season-opening spectacle that it will be. – Aimee Vitek (7 p.m. at Amway Center, 400 W. Church St.; 800-745-3000; orlandomagic.com; $5-$1,035)
