Through Jan. 22Launch 2012

Anyone involved in the writing business knows: Writing is hard, but finding an audience for your work is even harder. Which is why Launch 2012, an annual mini-fest of new short works for the stage, is such an important incubator. Every year the Playwrights Round Table, which exists to nurture new playwrights, sponsors this event, which offers new plays by promising playwrights some much-needed exposure. This year’s selections include 7 Days by Stephen Miller, about a man in a hospital who finds himself answering questions about spirituality; Recalculating by Eugenia Carabatsos, about a couple on a road trip who find they rely far too much on their GPS for guidance; and Escape Into Captivity by David Strauss, about a man who commits a crime so he can be sent back to jail. There are seven plays in the Launch 2012 program – too many to synopsize here but really, it’s not so much about the plot as it is about the craft. – Erin Sullivan
