Friday, Jan. 13 – Christabel and the Jons
Assuming this crisp weather we’re experiencing at the time of this writing holds up another week, now might be the perfect time to see this fast-rising Tennessee four-piece. Lead singer Christa DeCicco’s torchy lilts provide an atmosphere of coziness so homespun that it puts She & Him’s calculated folksiness to shame, while instrumentalist Seth Hopper’s entertaining assortment of brass, strings, pipes and whatever else he can get his hands on adds a vital dose of log-cabin improvisation to the group’s bluegrass and indie folk until it feels like you’re snowed in with the people you would most want to be trapped with. They’re particularly great at adding color to otherwise drab Christmas tunes, and although it’s January, there might be enough spirit left in the air to convince them to break out their cover of “Winter Wonderland,” which is so toasty that it can’t help but slice through the nighttime chill. – Justin Strout
