Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 4-5 – Mount Dora Arts Festival
This festival is for the strong of mind as well as wallet. Agoraphobics and hoarders should stay away – the thousands of patrons and the abundance of covetable art make it a danger zone for anyone who can’t deal with a crowd or can’t keep their wallet in their pants. Now in its 37th year, the fair usually attracts 200,000 to 300,000 visitors, making it one of the best-attended art events in Central Florida; as well, it sets a lofty standard for its exhibitors, meaning the ratio of high-quality photographs, sculpture and paintings to kitschy potholders and fridge magnets is pleasingly high. Bring cash and wear comfortable shoes; parking can be a nightmare, so plan to take a stroll through Mount Dora’s charming cottage-lined streets before the buying frenzy. – Jessica Bryce Young
