Wednesday, March 7 – Japanther
with Filthy Savage, Ken South Rock, Flashlights
Will's Pub, 1042 N. Mills Ave.
Expressly arty musicians tend to be a starchy, self-serious lot. But not Brooklyn punk band Japanther. Fuck no. Oh, there’s definitely an art-school edge to what they do – the band formed when its founders were both attending hallowed NYC art college the Pratt Institute and its curriculum vitae is loaded with a long, illustrious history of performance art. But with a redlining, synth-pumped pogo-punk sound, they’re also bona fide party starters. If you neglected their last swing through town, well, all you missed was a full-room firecracker of frenzied joy that practically ripped the lid off the joint. So don’t sleep this time. If this show doesn’t rocket Will’s Pub to the moon and back, we’ll be dead shocked. And if you haven’t seen opening Titusville phenom Flashlights play yet, then brace yourself for their blaring, all-in rapture. – Bao Le-Huu
