Mel's Bad Girls Club annual prom fundraiser goes vintage

Saturday, Aug. 11 – Mel's Bad Girls Club Presents: Prom 2012

8 p.m.

The Abbey

100 S. Eola Drive

$25-$30, $75 for all you can drink ticket

The theme for this year’s annual adult-prom shindig, held annually by the local fundraising ladies of Mel’s Bad Girls Club, is “An Evening in Vintage Hollywood.” And they’re pulling out the red carpet for it, too – we’re talking about a royal Hollywood entrance with paparazzi, classic black-and-white prom photos, dancing and a live band, appetizers and champagne. Expect to see some Dean Martin swagger from some of the gentlemen in attendance, a few women dolled up in their best Marilyn Monroe look-alike attire and, for sure, at least one Breakfast at Tiffany’s floor-length black number – pearls, beehive and all. Proceeds from the event will benefit BASE Camp programs to support children living with life-threatening illnesses, so unlike your actual prom, you really have no excuse not to attend this one. – Aimee Vitek
