Wednesday, Aug. 29 – An Evening Inspired by John Hughes

8 p.m.

724 Virginia Drive

Dear Orlando: We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Wednesday night just to show you how awesome John Hughes is. But we think you’re crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us: in the simplest terms and in the most convenient definitions

but what we found out is that each one of us is a bartender. And a sommelier. And an art curator. A film historian. And a DJ. Does that answer your question? Sincerely yours, Sip. Custom cocktails by David Brown, wine selections by Chris Belcher, John Hughes film clips curated by Benjamin Whatley and music by DJ Smilin’ Dan add up to an event organized by Sip curator Heidi Kneisl in celebration of John Hughes, the auteur of ’80s Brat Pack antics, a filmmaker capable of finding the bittersweet laughs in powerlessness at any age, from teens to tots (Home Alone), from the newly adult (She’s Having a Baby) to the weary middle-aged (Planes, Trains and Automobiles). It will not be a waste of good lip gloss. – Jessica Bryce Young
