Thursday, Jan. 10 – Give Them Wings to Fly Kickoff Event
301 E. Pine St.
$25 minimum donation
Some kids are force-fed piano lessons, and some must beg for months for an electric guitar, but regardless of how children begin studying music, the positive impact of the experience can’t be refuted. Those of us who love music understand that it’s a great conduit for creativity, imagination and expression. Unfortunately, though, not every kid has access to music education. That’s where local nonprofit Give Them Wings To Fly, an organization that provides music education to kids through the donation of instruments, lessons and mentorship programs, comes in. Based in Winter Park, the charity exposes kids to the life-affirming effects of music, and you can help them do so by attending their kickoff event in downtown Orlando. A $25 minimum donation gets you drinks, hors d’oeuvres, live entertainment and even some raffle action. But most importantly, your donation will help give kids the best gift they can get in 2013: the gift of music. – Katherine Ramirez Massey
