Friday, Jan. 11 – Lone Wolf
with the Bloody Jug Band, the Misery Jackals
1042 N. Mills Ave.
Inspired to multitask his music career by the big boss man Jimmy Reed (who played harmonica and guitar simultaneously), the one-man blues band Lone Wolf gets busy quickly, delivering his rapid-fire picking style, which is a far cry from the sexy-smooth style of a Reed standard like “Honest I Do.” His banjo’s dancey song overpowers his Tom Waits-like grunted vocals, and the crazed set that ensues fills the room and typically draws a flock of the area’s Americana devotees. What’s more, he’s coming around with still-fresh songs from his latest release A Walk in My Pause, including a track that details the horrors of living through Hurricane Andrew, sure to resonate with longtime residents who endured similar discomforts. Getting even more Florida about it, the album art features a swampy scene encompassing much of our state’s wildlife, which hopefully indicates that the other 12 tracks draw from other familiar state settings. – Ashley Belanger
