Friday, Feb. 1 – Red Bull Thre3style Qualifier With DJ M-Squared

10 p.m.

The Social

54 N. Orange Ave.

Red Bull might have made the most headlines last year for sponsoring the out-of-this-world – and mercifully, successful – freefall of Felix Baumgartner, but the energy drink has also fueled a global DJ competition for the past five years that challenges the world’s greatest DJs to push their spinning to dizzying new heights: the Red Bull Thre3Style competition. Basically, the DJs are required to put together 15-minute sets that mix three music genres, with both crowd appeal and technical skill factoring into the judging. And the Social is hosting our local qualifier for the main event, featuring DJ Rincon, who’s placed nationally in these competitions before and will definitely be a party force to be reckoned with. As a bonus to all the local talent who you know will be going all out, it’s hosted by DJ M-Squared, the Brooklyn rapper who won the whole shebang in 2010 and stars in the BET reality show Master of the Mix. – Ashley Belanger
