with Jr. Meowzer, the New Lows, You Vandal, Among Giants
1300 N. Mills Ave.
Remember when indie rock was soulfully unpretentious? Yeah, we miss that ethos, too. But instead of just waxing nostalgic about those good ol’ days, go live that shit with North Carolina’s Old Flings. Motoring from the melodic side of post-hardcore, where truth comes via big guitars and bigger hearts, their comfy, broken-in sound is an especially tuneful and outstanding exemplar of beefy ’90s indie rock. But making this show even more noteworthy is some exceptional local talent. With their life-affirmingly incandescent fuzz, Jr. Meowzer are one of the area’s best, most underrated young bands. And few have calibrated pop-punk as perfectly as the New Lows. Further packing the bill with value – to the tune of one piddling dollar per band – are Gainesville pop-punkers You Vandal and Orlando folk-punkers Among Giants. If anything, it’ll be a good opportunity to see how live music works at new bar Orlando Nights. – Bao Le-Huu
