When it comes to shopping, there’s a difference between popularity, where everyone has it, and originality: You know, that sweater or watch or pair of shoes only you have. We say, why blend in when it is so easy to stand out? For this reason, the Maitland Civic Center plays host to another incarnation of the Big Bang Bazaar – with this year’s theme, “Nerd Is the Word.” This shopping event brings together more than 100 vendors selling indie arts and crafts, along with vintage and handmade clothing: Tortuga Tile Works’ contemporary tiled motifs that capture the true art form of graffiti; Stephanie Kotkin Creations’ Kirby ceramic bowls and Super Mario piranha plant earrings; and Fox Dreams Arts and Crafts’ Pokémon artwork, to give you an idea. So, come out for a day of shopping, bring the girlfriends (or boyfriends), become inspired and buy a novelty piece for yourself (or, if you’re feeling extra nice, for us!). – Shelby England
