Saturday, April 20 – 8th Annual Central Florida Earth Day
10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Lake Eola Park
195 N. Rosalind Ave.
Did you know that Orlando hosts the longest-running Earth Day celebration in Central Florida? It’s eight years old, and this year’s fest, set in picturesque Lake Eola Park, packs educational and resourceful activities, such as how to use composting worms to convert trash into treasure, or how to properly maintain a garden in the brutal Orlando weather. There’s also the Earth Kids Zone, where little ones can watch an eco-friendly fashion show and create eco-friendly paint projects. The daylong event has musical talent spanning two stages, offering everything from hip-hop by Freethought M.C. to folk-rock by John David Williams to Gabriela’s Latin acoustic-funk. And to round out the day, local chefs present vegetarian food demos; artists showcase works; pet rescues set up in the Animal Haven; and guest speakers talk water conservation, sustainable government practices and the like. Here’s your chance to show support for our home planet. – Shelby England
