Thursday, June 13 – Garden Theatre Summer Movie Series
through Aug. 23
160 W. Plant St., Winter Garden
$5, $55 summer movie pass
If you’ve never visited the adorable Main-Street strip of downtown Winter Garden, here’s your chance. Not only does this tiny town make for a picture-perfect cycling pit stop along the West Orange Trail, its few blocks are home to some notable restaurants and retail stores, all anchored by the charming Garden Theatre. The traditional one-screen cinema is a mainstay in these parts (since 1935), and this year again hosts its Summer Movie Series, with film showings twice a week, every week, all summer long. Thursdays are for “Vintage Favorites,” such as Gene Kelly’s musical Singin’ in the Rain (June 13), Orson Welles’ mystery Citizen Kane (July 11) and 1950’s All About Eve, starring Bette Davis (Aug. 8). Fridays you can catch “Cult Classics” – think family adventures like The Goonies (June 14), sci-fi action in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (July 5) and comedies like Christopher Guest’s Waiting for Guffman (Aug. 9). Before heading out (but really, it’s not that far out there!), visit the theater website for a full schedule. If nothing else, you’ll enjoy a reprieve from the blistering summer heat. Snuggle up with a buttery bucket of popcorn and enjoy the show. – Aimee Vitek
