Friday, June 21 – Moon Jelly
with Zenas Fisk
Stardust Video & Coffee
1842 E. Winter Park Road
This local band is both adorable and really fucking weird. Though the members’ collective résumé spans many notable Orlando indie bands (Sloppy Kisses, Telethon, Zenas Fisk, Yip-Yip, Alias Punch), the world they inhabit as Moon Jelly is utterly its own. Perpetually enchanted, their performances have included princess costumes and cartoon visuals. To celebrate the release of their self-titled debut EP (on Bleeding Gold Records) and kick off their East Coast tour, the band unveils a new show with visuals that help illustrate the story line of their concept record: Moon Jelly’s ascension into the stratosphere (Side A) and their descent back to Earth (Side B). It runs through MIDI to sync with their playing. Musically, Anna Wallace’s theatrically playful vocals weave strange wonder over airy electronic playgrounds reminiscent of Erasure and Stereolab, all in a way that plays like psychedelic children’s music. Just let the chill of that idea sink in for a bit. – Bao Le-Huu
